Mission:
Provide leadership by planning, directing and implementing metrics for the performance a specific Engineering Group. Coach and develop assigned staff to ensure that the needed skills are applied to all projects assigned to the group. Provide a key customer interface to allow for issue escalation and resolution. Negotiate support and conformance from other corporate teams. Provide ongoing status of projects to leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Manage assigned engineering team to accomplish assigned projects by aligning assignments to objectives and ensuring that progress is achieved to plan.
- Provide feedback on ongoing performance and ensure that team members have adequate training and leadership to be successful.
- Conduct regular performance reviews on assigned staff including recommendations for promotion and any required performance improvement plans.
- Lead effort for common engineering practices and implementation.
- Oversee, as required, technical presentations internally, at suppliers & OEM relating to specific engineering development programs.
- Assess engineering launch readiness & mitigation plans through Engineering Status Review meetings.
- Ensure technical core competencies are correctly deployed to support quoting strategies and technical reviews.
- Verify design to process, release to production within allocated time, cost and quality objectives of the program.
- Document all activities as required
- Provide adequate and timely support to the projects in development.
- Prepare a Design and Engineering Plan for each new project and present it for approval.
- Communicate any change in the Design & Engineering Plan of each project
- Prepare and continuously monitor a budget for the Design and Engineering activities of each project.
- Prepare and present project status reports for each project and review them with management as needed.
- Interface with manufacturing facilities and external customers on technical issues and establish mutual trust and respect.
- Promote and enforce the disciplines of DFMEA, DFM, DFA, DVP&R and disciplined team problem solving.
- Promote and enforce engineering APQP deliveries within the engineering scope.
- Promote and enforce Design Reviews among Projects and Product Engineers
- Develop, document and implement methods and procedures to standardize and minimize cost and timing for engineering deliverables.
- Create, develop and maintain a Lessons Learned for each Project.
- Create, develop and maintain Design Standards & Guidelines.
- Develop and implement an education program to continuously upgrade skill of department team members.
- Promote and perpetuate “teamwork” in all activities.
- Schedule, maintain, and conduct regular meetings with the Product Engineers working in the Projects in development.
- Give technical assistance to our customers as needed.
- Establish coordination between Customer Engineering and Division Development Department.
- Keep management informed of all information regarding sector automotive trends.
- Retain, respect and assure non-disclosure agreement for aspects detailed.
- Responsible for keeping abreast of new developments in the field.
- Work closely with sales personnel in support of customer needs.
- Prepare and support Technical Presentations as required for programs in development.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience required
- Experience in product engineering with experience as manager or engineering leader in automotive or related field
- Professional and effective communication and representation skills.
- Ability to sit, stand and have mobility to move around the office or manufacturing environment, when needed.
- Ability to conduct extended computer work and lead discussions with employees.
- Visits to customer facilities and plants may require extended standing and walking.
- Ability to lift, move and manipulate parts required.
- May require domestic and international travel
